So I figured I needed a website and a blog to help promote the fundraising challenge and help get donations! It’ll also act as a diary for what I’m doing to the car and all this things we need to do to prepare for the journey in 2022.
As it stands I’ve got over £1,880 in donations, which is amazing! Friends and family have been generous and so have complete strangers, thank you to you all!
This idea came about around December 2020. Since April I had been working on my Porsche to help me keep occupied and give me something to focus on while the kids were at school. After returning to work (we were now in a global pandemic!) there wasn’t much to do, and the car gave me a project to keep me focused! I had wanted to raise some money for the hopsice, and had planned to do a run (which raised nearly £800), but got cancelled because of Covid-19. Combining the two ideas made me think that I could get the car working and drive on some epic journey.
Some people might remember the “Million Dollar Homepage” from the 90s? The guy sold pixels on his website to huge companies and made a million bucks. Well how about if I used the same idea, and put donors names on the car? It would help say thanks, and maybe get some more donations from companies who donated too, or helped me with parts/equipment?
Anyway, the restoration of the car is going well so far! Currently I am welding some new sills on after the old ones rusted away while the car sat on my driveway for 4 years. I’ll be posting some photos on Instagram soon (as soon as you can’t see my terrible welds!)
Stay safe.
