Back on the road!

Last week was nerve-wracking, the Porsche was booked in for a new MOT test. This is the roadworthiness test that all cars need to have to drive on the roads; without this our trip and fundraising efforts would be seriously at risk!

Thankfully, the awesome team at Midway Garage Ltd could get the car booked in. I asked them to do an oil and filter change, replace the timing belt (as the car has been stationary for 5 years, and Porsche recommend it’s changed every 5 years), and give it a good inspection too. They didn’t disappoint. Frank and his team got the test done first, and the old girl passed. Only a few minor advisories for the front tyre wear, and the rear brake sticking. My tyres will be replaced before the summer trip north, so that will be fine. Frank’s team took a look at the brake and determined that the caliper was sticking, so a new one was ordered and replaced in short order.

When I booked the car in, I had explained about the fundraising challenge and Midway Garage kindly offered me a huge reduction in their hourly rate to show their support for Arthur Rank Hospice. The team there really do listen to their customers, and knowing that I was embarking on a long road trip, could offer the advice I needed. I’ve used Midway on a few previous occasions (classic car breakdowns are part of the joy of ownership, right?) and they have always taken the utmost care and deliver excellent work. I would recommend them if you’re in the Ely area!! Thanks guys!

With the car now MOT’d and taxed, the next phase of rally preparations can start. Roof rack and roof tent fitting, a few practice runs to see if there are any other little issues.

Our rally sticker pack also arrived in the mail, so Easter weekend might be rather busy getting the car washed and stickers on. I’m sure you’ll be seeing the old Porsche on the roads soon, if you do give us a wave!
